Tools, Trades and Engineering / Float Charger
« on: April 26, 2008, 09:54:03 AM »
Some time ago there was a long discussion about float chargers regarding brands, costs and such.
This post is a kind of follow-up wondering about longevity. Did the ones from Harbout Freight last? What about others? What about performance? Some work better than others?

Thanks

SEL General Stationary Engine Discussion Forum / Faultless Magneto
« on: April 22, 2008, 03:07:36 PM »
Anybody out there who knows anything about the origin of these magnetos?
The tag on one says magneto, but they are more like an auto sparker. One is sold by John M. Smyth MDSE. Co. and is called Faultless Magneto.  The other is tagged by Henricks Novelty Co. Both are generally alike except for some small differences. Both are rated at 1500 RPM. Both have the leather drive and governors.
Thanks
Dave

George, I forgot the reference in that post. Tom Madden and crew were at Tulare displaying a booth, tractors and signs promoting the Woodland show.
Sorry,
Dave

Just came home from there where they had a very impressive display of crawlers and one wheel tractor.  Weather there was chilly and windy and they had mag problems on two of the machines, one Holt and one Best.  The VanDeer (spelling) group was displaying a Best 60 and 30. Painted gloss black with gold lettering. Beautiful tractors. They are making reproduction fuel tanks that are exact duplicates of the original tanks, and not cheap. I bought a top seat -long tank for my 30.

Great that you are getting to be an expert. Dave.  When I have questions about my 1939, I will know who to ask.

I'm also doing a 1939 at the same time. The 1945 was sold to feed the 1939 because it is a keeper. Got 3000 bucks in it so far and still going!

These were taken about 40 miles south of Sacramento, CA in the rolling hills along the Sacramento river. They were hanging in my grandfather's gun house.

Restored Holt 75 at the Ag Expo museum in Tulare, CA,

Nice tractor, but I've been trying to get them to let me loan them the correct magneto for it.
