Quite an interesting friend to have I am sure. "Old Timers" are a wealth of info. when you are trying to figure out how to do something with limited means and only need to do it once.

While it is still done on some specialized high-output CNC controlled machines, it is almost a lost art in the world of manufacturing. I work in a machine shop and only a few folks knew what it was. Only a couple had even seen it done. Evidently it is done primarily by either production shops or folks making ornamentals. If you have high-speed, check out some of the videos on you-tube. If I had the time it, along with blacksmithing, is something I would love to know how to do.

Depending on how do-it-yourself the membership is would determine how in depth to go with any particular subject. I've got a project coming up involving body leadwork. I've bought my materials and a DVD but I would love to watch it done in person. I did teach myself enough about metal-spinning via you-tube to make a part for one of my tractors last winter.

At one time we were getting spammed/hijacked/ whatever you want to call it, by some inappropriate users/material. Maybe that has something to do with it.

This past summer I was invited to a neigboring tractor club to share with them a bit about magneto repair. Basically I just gave them some basics on mag repair, trouble shooting, and what a professional rebuilder (which I am not) does.
I would think topics on painting and bodywork would be interesting.
Also brazing and soldering.

How far (how much $$$) are you going with this one? New tires? A paint job worthy of the field or the showgrounds or none at all? Looks like a fun project regardless of how far you go. I think your next project should be dropping a BIG V-8 into a tractor.

Did it have the 66 power unit? There was one not far from me. I had asked about it and was told it wasn't for sale. It disapeared from where it sat (for yrs.) not long after my asking.....not sure what happened to it but I hope it is in good hands.

I think I saw the ad in the last issue of Antique Power. There was a small picture of it in the auction ad.

My wish list includes a cross-motor Hart-Parr and one of the small Oil Pulls (12-18 hp range). Of course the way I am progressing with my Titan it will probably be the last one I restore! Let me know if you run across a good deal on some Round-Tuits.

I know what you mean about the steel wheels as they are my preference as well. They can be a pain when you are limited to where you can drive them or when it comes to damaging the shop floor. I have 2 rolls of conveyor belting that I drive mine on to get into the shop.

Dad has a 10-20 and it is a great machine. The only bad thing about it is the short angle iron lugs make for a rough ride. My 12-20 Case on the other hand has long lugs and it rides very smooth.

Hey Danny, saw just what you need to compliment the grader--an Oliver powered road roller/packer. It's coming up for auction soon--in the Midwest I believe. Now that would make a GREAT working display at a tractor pull!:D

Assuming I make it to the other side of the fence, I probably will have wimped out and gone to electric start tractors and refuse to restore one that is more than 10% rust. Of the 3 I have restored, 1 was proably 75% rust, the other 2 as well as the one I am on now were 98% or greater covered in rust. Come to think of it, one of them was actually passed over a couple of times by older guys! And as for the money part, what has changed that they think those of us who are working, paying mortgages and saving for college educations can smoke Cuban cigars and light them with $100 bills? Maybe they painted too many tractors without using a respirator!

ATIS General Tractor Discussion / Parts Washer Solvent

I think I would look into varsol or agitene before I filled the washer with mineral spirits--do you have a Grainger or other type of industrial supply store nearby? No expert here but with the quantity of fluid you are talking about I would be concerned about fumes and flamability of the liquid. I would also be concerned as to what your pump can safely handle. We have one of the Chineese parts washers at work and it handles agitene fine. At home we have a plastic tub and we only pour about a 1/2 to 1 gallon of kerosene in it. No more than we use here we can use the old stuff for burning brush or add it to the waste oil container.
