Baling Oat Straw
« on: October 07, 2011, 07:36:54 PM »
I baled a little oat straw this week in case I need some small square bales for bedding in the cattle shelter and barn. I used my brother's 1085 Massey tractor and my Massey 120 baler. The scenery was good and the baler worked well producing some well formed and tight bales that are always nice to work with. Although my back was feeling the strain from hauling them in the next day. I'll bet those bales will shake out easy when the twine is released, Ralph.  I have bedded many cows with long cut straw, and it does take a good amount of shaking with the pitch fork to get it spread.  The golden oat straw is sure pretty when spread though.
