John Deere / ATTN: John Deere Owners
« on: September 24, 2014, 11:59:13 AM »
We now know from reading the ATIS list that Dean VP is signed onto this forum.  Most of us know that Mr. VP has a boatload of John Deere knowledge which he is great about sharing with others.  Have any Green tractor questions??  Lets hammer Dean.

ATIS General Tractor Discussion / July 4th start up
« on: July 05, 2011, 09:07:39 AM »
With the ground now firm enough for bar tire traffic, I have finally gotten around to starting and moving some of the collectors.  Dug out the IH cub first and checked it out.  That always fires with just a touch of the starter so I drove it around some to stir it's juices and parked it by the garage to allow a good mowing of the normal parking area.  The next day came the pretty JD model H which fired off on about the third flywheel turn over compression.  Following that was the JD model L which has been moved several times this year already.

The last tractor in that little group was the 1930 McCormick Deering 10-20.  July 4th seemed like a good time to rattle the neighborhood with the unmuffled exhaust that goes right out the pipe on the left side.  (One time I forgot to warn my DIL not to stand three feet in front of that pipe when I cranked it up.  She got quite a surprise.)  That, like the JD H had not been run since last fall.  After unbundling, dealing with a few Hornets. adding some gas, oiling the valve train and giving it a general check over I was ready for the crank.  I know not to choke this one unless it won't start without as when not under load it runs a little rich.  Not to be out done by those green and yellow tractors, the old girl started right off on the first lift of the crank and the first click of the mag.  With good behavior like that, she got a wash job and a drive around before being parked, just like the others.

Now I intend to leave them uncovered for a few days to enjoy looking at them before returning them to seclusion.

Quiet Saturday night listening to the G.O.O. from Nashville over the net so I put together a few more clips from my files.  As previously stated, the Forums are just too quiet so my task is to add some noise.

If anyone thinks it does not take much to amuse me, you may be right.  I have determined that I can take Deer tracks in the snow:

Then add the letter e and have Deere tracks in the snow:

I am confident some will identify the lad pictured at a glance, while others may not.  Anyone who wants to take a shot at identification, please post a reply for fun or post an I dunno reply.  I will reveal the true identity in a few days.

At the moment old iron is not sparking much conversation so I am taking a few moments for cool relaxation in the pond.  Here is my picture:

Hey Merton,

Now that you educated me on what they are, did you see the June 2009 edition of Farm Collector magazine. Numerous pictures of various types of oilers.  If you have not seen this, I know you would enjoy seeing it.

ATIS General Tractor Discussion / Plow day
« on: November 05, 2009, 09:01:14 AM »
In a shameless effort to rig the visitor rating of my profile page, I have added a small album with pictures of a recent plow day in our area.  This event being sponsored by the WNY Two Cylinder Club may explain  heavy presence of green and yellow paint.  Take a look.

'round the pot-bellied stove / A nice llittle parade
« on: September 27, 2009, 10:12:47 PM »
Loaded the '66 International Cub on the trailer and took it to an annual tractor parade in a small hamlet seven or eight miles from home on Sept. 19.  This event is sponsored by a local church in conjunction with fund raising events for that church.  It is a very relaxed atmosphere and anything that can be pushed, pulled, trailed, or driven is welcome in the parade.  I estimate there were about 100 tractors, etc., entered.  My spectator estimate along the parade route is about 1000.  It was a beautiful end of summer day with bright sun and temperature of 70 deg. F.

I did not know what else to do with my camera so decided to take it along on the parade drive.  That led to the next thought of taking pictures during the parade for a view from the driver perspective.  I will tell you now, that was a great idea.  Spectators were there to take pictures of the tractors, but no one expected someone in the parade to take their picture.  Most seemed quite pleased to be "on camera".  As I look at these pictures time after time, I have come to realize the parade is not just about tractors.  The many happy faces and enjoyment among the spectators is what it is really all about.

While working on the JD L which has been apart for a month, I noticed a bee very determined to go into the carburetor intake pipe.  A dose of spray took out the bee, but what was it up to? The goose neck to the air cleaner is missing, so we better have a look before cranking this thing.

Now don't you just hate it when this happens?
