'round the pot-bellied stove / Closing in on 10k members!

I'm of exactly the same opinion. Today is the first I've been back for about three weeks, and I see nothing has changed. Sure wish I was a little closer on the date of the 8000 contest, I could have used a little encouragement back then.

I have two. One is a hard rubber tire little guy that has a 2000 lb capacity. Onal twin engine on propane. It goes through my shop door from the storage side which is very useful in moving engines. The other is something like a 1949  vintage with an industrial ford 6 cyl engine with a 4500 lb capacity. It gets used in the yard unloading, ect.

Going to Turlock, Ca tomorrow to pick up 2 cast bases for them. Otherwise, they're both completed and running. I'll post pictures when I have them mounted to the bases.

How about weather and starlings? They migrate through here by the thousands. The biggest problem is they hand around and congregate at the dairys and feed on the rolled oats and other grains the daiymen feed their milk cows. The government gets involved and poisons them. I have a large ivy growing on the wall next to the back door they began nesting in. This morning there were 16 of them on the ground.

George,
I finally got to the fuel pump stage and guess what? The pump ypu sent me is a "mirror image" or exactly opposite in the mounting pattern. Someone told me it might fit an H or N model. Any idea where you got it?

We used to have a lot of pheasants here, I remember the limit was 3 roosters and one hen. Then came the people and with them came the house cats. There are no pheasants left and the mountain quail are slowly disappearing also.

Well, its 11 below this morning. The snow really crunches when you walk on it. As for the birds, about 40 or so years ago my mother imported some from California and with the wild ones around here the population grew. Last summer I invited friends over for a peacock shoot. In two days 55 of them left as coyote bait. There is still 40 or so around here. I do take mercy on them and supplement grain when we are in conditions such as now.

8" of snow on the ground, not a cloud in the sky and it's 4 below this morning!
Noticed the peacocks won't fly or try to as their wingtips hit the snow when they try to take off. About 40 of roosted under shrubbery last  night. Ripe pickings for the coyotes...got too many anyway.

You'll find that back then everyone made one. I'll bet there were at least 30 manfacturers. Have fun!

You know what I find amusing is the amount of people that have never heard of one and when informed they sell like hotcakes at swap meets. Average going price is $50 or more. Saw one go for about $300 in a bidding frenzy at Tulare Ca. last year.
