ATIS General Tractor Discussion / Tractor Storage
« on: December 05, 2010, 02:19:53 PM »
Hi Ralph

The srink wrap gets pretty darn tight, biggest trick is not to have metal touching it on sharp corners. As I take more pictures, the tractor shape will look funny becasue of blocks of wood under the shrink wrap.
Snowing here today, too much for shrining

Since I am in the middle of transfering from one place to another, I lost my tractor storage for the winter, as it became a crud shop.  I bought material to shrinkwrap my pontoon, and thought, why not.
Today we started shrink wrapping the JD 60. I have inclosed, and here is a picture of my son using our 'torch' to shrink wrap.

That 340 sure caught my eye. I take it is a high crop. I guess I had not seen a 340, but that is a nice size tractor.

'round the pot-bellied stove / Just not much going on
« on: October 12, 2010, 11:33:56 AM »
At least using tractors or working on them. I finally got the fender back on the 930 Case. I tore the seat apart, and I am having trouble finding seat parts. I do have the bottom cushion.

With selling the house, getting pontoon out of water and winterized, and my big project right now is building a wind generator. I am getting close to putting it up in the air.  And we have been working on getting field tile to drain a spring ... that has been interesting.

I have rambled enough, just confused on this weather, 80 degrees in the middle of Oct is unreal.  Darn dry though.

The first photo was taken on my grandfathers ranch who knows when. The header followed the ground and the machine was hand leveled through a series of friction clutches.

I wonder how many man hours it took just to harness a team like that. It had to be a job in itself.

ATIS General Tractor Discussion / Hi speed road gear
« on: September 03, 2010, 11:56:38 PM »
As a teen ager the 14-15 mph was plenty darn fast. At my age today I can not fathom going 27 mph on a tractor. That is as fast as some backhoes.  That must cut the wind through the hair.

I have no idea why it is so fast. I have heard of slow tractor races, but maybe you need to start a fast tractor race. Be careful of that pretty tractor at those speeds,

I am not sure if this power shift transmission will hold in gear when the engine is shut down.

I don't think it does either. I do not trust gears to hold it.

On a side note: I attempted to add an album to my page here on the forum a few days ago, but the attempt failed so I guess I am missing something. Perhaps this forum no longer has the ability to resize the pictures down to spec. ???

I don't know how you guys get your fancy box with previous info in them .... anyway, I cut my pictures to half size, there were roughly 500-600 kb.  I had a few more but it takes time to res isze and upload.

Like Gene said, Spencer will/can not put much more into the email list.  I think I heard him say it tooks 5 times the computer to run it, because of all the spam filters.  I got the idea as it deterates, it will not be repaired.

Once I could load pictures, I like it here, just have to reember to check it, insteasd of waititng for email. Some forum have email notification if a reply is made to your post.

Just a few pictures to tractors in Portland.  A big dispaly and a big crowd. The weather was great.  Many good people around the fire. Thanks to Larry Dodson, for having an air tank there. Rear tire on my 60 went down:(

Thanks that helped me to understand. Basically 4 forward, with 3 ranges in each. And no they are not smooth, but by dam you know they are there. I drove it the 18 miles home today. Some lights work, most of the gauges, but not the tach, A few of the lights, 3pt is strong,, and remotes seem OK. It has a set of dual tires to go with it, and I have the side curtains. I will keep it or turn a nickle. I think I will forget the parking brake is there, unless gears won't hold it on a slope.

Today I put a new battery clamp on, put a new valve stem in and air.  Put the battery charger on high and turned the key .... it turned over! I decided to let it turn over for a few seconds  .... it started within 2 seconds. My brother and I were amazed.  I could not get it into all gears, shifters may be gummed up. It is a 12 speed power shift. What is powershift. It needs a clutch or gears grind. I moved it enough to know it moves and 3 pt works.  It got hot in that cab in a hurry today!!

It says something like that, power shift.  No shift stick on the floor, all on the side. They used it last year to bush hog about 10 acres. Hopefull it will still move. I don't think I have anything to haul it on.

I have been tinkering with this a few hours this week.  They said it ran last year, and my son agreed.  I have charged and put a battery in it, new starter solenoid. Today a battery clamp broke, so I need one of those. And a valve stem.  Maybe it will run this weekend. The price seems right, they have the dual, and side curtains for it.

If it does not start easy, I may let it sit.
