Did anyone have a chance to talk to Spencer?

I would have been curious to find out his plans for this forum and when we can expect the next changes.

We had a 1937 Ford truck with 2 Ford flathead V-8's powering the belt pulley.

Gene,

Wish you had pictures of this.  Not sure if you had a 37 Ford truck with two engines or not.  Also haven't seen a Ford truck with a flat belt pulley.

Ralph,

Nice picture!

If you ever take a vertical picture of one of your tractors, rather than the standard horizontal one, you might consider emailing it to me.

I can always use (tall, vertical, portrait) format pictures for the cover photo of W.A.I.T.

Always thought that Cockshutt made nice looking tractors.

Charlie,

I remembered that I already loaded a picture of the Bobcat with grapple rake in my photo album.

Good to see a little life here.  I also check the front page almost everyday to see if there are any new postings.

I am glad that Spencer did fix one of the photo problems so I can now upload pictures again.  But I still think it is poor having a front page that he set up and then never made it relavent to the forum or gave anyone the permissions to update anything.  **** poor support if you ask me ;-)

Last weekend I hired a Mexican to help me clear all the blackberries out from behind my polebarn and help gather up scrap metal to donate to the club I belong to.  I think he thought it was going   to be a big job since the berry patch was the full width of the 60' pole barn and went out a good 30 to 40 feet behind the barn.  Had a couple tractors, buzz saw, tractor parts, junk, etc. that were covered over.

He was a bit surprised when I brought the Bobcat with grapple rack around and started ripping out the berry vines and building a burn pile.  Super handy for removing blackberries and unwanted brush.

I'll have to look and see if I have any pictures to post.

Charlie,

I was wondering if everyone had given up on this forum.
Until Spencer decides to support the forum I'm not starting new threads, but will respond to postings if any are made.

Nice plate of apples from 2004.  Not sure how our crop will be this year, as I don't think we had very good weather during pollination time.

Charlie,

Looks a lot like the buzzsaw I have, except I've got paint on mine.
Used to use my Farmall A to run it, but that tractor died a few years ago and I never used it again except for parts for my Super A that I use for mowing.

Last time I ran the saw I used my Field Marshall tractor to power it as it is the  only running tractor I have that has a flat belt pully.

Might have to try running it from one of my stationary engines some time.

'round the pot-bellied stove / Forklifts?
« on: March 12, 2010, 03:29:44 PM »
Charlie,

Having owned a Bobcat for over 12 years I'm well aware of the stability differences of keeping loads close to the ground rather than raised.  Never got in a problem with the Bobcat but have had times where I needed to quickly adjust the bucket height to keep from tipping forward with it.  Actually operating at the tipping point makes life more fun:rolleyes:

One of my first jobs out of high school involved operating a forklift frequently, plus for a few years I had a Toyota forklift that belonged to a friend going through an ugly divorce.  So I've had a few forklift experiences well before getting my own.

A couple weeks ago I finally got a real forklift, a 5k lb capacity Yale.

In the short time I've had it I've already moved several engines around including my big 12hp Ingeco sideshaft.

Forklifts are probably more commonly owned by engine collectors than tractor collectors as the need to lift and move engines is much more common than needing to lift a tractor.  Although I've moved several Fordson tractors around with a forklift that belonged to a friend several years ago.

Just curious if others on this forum have a forklift and what size?

'round the pot-bellied stove / Propane Tank Question
« on: March 04, 2010, 04:41:34 PM »
Tanks under 40 lbs need the OPD valve.  If you have an old tank without the OPD valve you can continue using it until the tank needs to be recertified.  Tanks are good for 12 years before needing to be recertified.  Your tanks are likely to be older than 12 years if they don't have the OPD valve.  Look at the last certified dates on your tanks to decide whether you want to switch fittings or just buy new replacements.  The date on your tanks are what the refill station should be looking at, although some places refill without checking.

I'm not proposing any contest to guess the date as I'm pretty much giving up on this forum.

I've been tempted several times to call Spencer again and tell him to just pull the plug if he's not going to support us.

Here's my rant

Spencer made the forums available to us several years ago.  But after getting it set up he basically just ignored the forums and did nothing to promote it.  Didn't even participate in the discussions or answer questions directed to him.

Then the end of last year he loads a new version of the forums and with a new Front Page with the promise of articles and all sorts of fancy stuff (which we didn't ask for).  Immediately after loading the new software he disappears again and doesn't respond to any of the questions that were posted after the software change.

I even called him on the phone towards the end of January to let him know we had problems and needed some help.  Said he was busy at the moment and would look at it later.  He's never gotten back on the forum or updated anything as far as I can tell.

Personally, I'd rather he set it back to the old software as at least we weren't bothered seeing a bunch of dummy articles that no one can use or update.

I think it is insane to provide a forum and to have no support for it.

I can't see continuing to post new topics in the engine/tractor areas while our host/moderator ignores us.

I'm not calling Spencer again, but maybe one of you can convince him to either get the new software working and add articles, or reset it back to the old forum only format, or just pull the plug and take away the fun from the hackers driving up the membership count.

I don't do much at youtube because it is just painfully slow to load on dialup but recentlly got a link to an old tv program I used to like on there. I thought I'd go and see the opening credits anyway. Remember "Cannonball", the trucking series from the late 1950s?

I don't remember Cannonball, but do remember Movin' On which was a trucking series in the 70's.  One of the things I liked about Movin' On was their opening credits where it showed their truck going across a big bridge.  That bridge is the Columbia river bridge at Astoria Oregon.  Been across that bridge countless number of times.

Tools, Trades and Engineering / Shop heat / corn stoves??
« on: February 08, 2010, 12:39:10 PM »
Gene,

You fooled me!

I didn't notice the dates on the messages until I got to your message.
I thought we actually had some participation on a tread!

I've had plans for a waste oil burner for years as I've thought about modifying the wood stove I have in my shop.  I must have around 50 gallons of used oil I've saved from oil changes, etc. over the years.  In fact I'm kind of out of storage at the moment and my have to take some to a recycler before I can do any more oil changes.

One of these years maybe I'll actually modify my stove and see if the waste oil burner helps.  I've always had a good supply of wood to burn, but getting rid of the waste oil and getting some extra heat would be nice.
