Ralph,

What's that flame in the bottom left corner of the second picture?

Dave,

Haven't reached the 8000 mark yet.

I have today as my guess but with 63 to go I doubt that will happen today.
Charlie V has the next best guess of January 2nd, but I think my guess will end up being the closest one.

When I first clicked on my favorites link to see what was going on with ATIS Forums this morning, I was certainly surprised!
My first thought was someone had hijacked the URL and redirected me to some strange website.
Then I noticed Spencer's name all over the place and my first thought was he had switched interests and replaced the tractor/engine forums with some sort of general news website.

Luckily I found the Forums button and found my way back into more familar territory although even the forums look and feel different.

I'm not complaining, just was a bit surprised this morning ;-)

(hey where are the emoticons?? ) [found them after clicking on Go Advanced, just not sure I'm advanced yet ]

Also I noticed that most of Spencer's articles are jibberish or latin as I sure can't read them!

Will be interesting getting used to this new format and learning our way around it.

Hopefully, Spencer will join in more and post answers to any questions or comments we have.

Gene,

Nice pictures.  I noticed the plane in the background of of one of the tractors so assumed that flying must be one of your other hobbies.  The plow day pictures confirmed the flying part.

Charlie, your entry is looking pretty good at the moment.
My 29th is entry is good too.  Not sure if we said anything about how to figure which guess is closest.  Maybe it will be the 29th and there won't be any questions :D

Have a Merry Christmas everyone!

ATIS General Tractor Discussion / Case 900 series

In the "first tractor YOU bought" thread there was mention of a few Case tractors.  Wanted to share a picture of the Case 900 that I had.  Didn't feel I could post it in the first tractor thread as it was not even in the first thirty I've owned.

It was a pretty good tractor and really sounded nice when all six cylinders were working.  Unfortunately it had a lazy cylinder and didn't run smooth until the engine had warmed up.

It also was an ether addict and first time to start each day you had to give it a little shot to get going.

Sold it last year as I've been trying to get my tractors down to a size I can legally haul on my legal trailer.

Just checked and Saturday morning we're at 7704, so the contest is closed with only a few entries.

ATIS General Tractor Discussion / First tractor YOU bought

What is the first tractor that you bought, not counting ones obtained from family or relatives.

For me the first tractor I bought was a Fordson in running condition that had cutdown rims and converted to rubber tires.  That's the tractor that got me into the old iron hobby back in the 70's.

No longer have that Fordson, but do have around 9 of them although none in running condition at the moment.  Had a lot of other Fordson's pass through my ownership over the years.  Seems that they are the only old tractors that I can still afford

Just as a wild guess I will say 8000 by Jan. 31, 2010.

Think you may want to move your date up a bit.  I'm thinking we'll pass the 7700 mark this weekend.  Although I must admit that it is cheaper for me if someone in the U.S. wins rather than a Canadian as it costs $1 just to mail an issue to Canada.

ATIS General Tractor Discussion / How about posting some tractor threads
« on: December 17, 2009, 12:35:24 PM »
I think all of us have tractors.  I may be primarily an engine collector, but I know Dave also has tractors in addition to the engines he has.

Seems that we should be able to get posting going on the tractor side.

George

ps.. your entry for the 8000 member contest better be in soon as we're closing in fast on the 7700 member cutoff.

Since we're at 7561 and still under the 7700 mark, I'll revise my entry to be 12/29/09.

At the moment only entrants other than myself are Charlie 1/2/10 and Dave 1/15/10. I'm ignoring jahaze's entry of 12/1/2170 because none of us will be around that date to see how many subscribers there are!

At the rate we're going I think we'll reach 7700 by this weekend, so you'd better revise or get your guess in during the next couple days.  After 7700 is reached entries and revisions are closed.

Just in case you don't know what you can win.  It is a 6 month subscription to Western Antique Iron Trader.

Charlie,

Only 567 to go now!

I'm surprised that everyone hasn't made a guess on this.  After all this is a contest with no cost to enter and you may actually win something.

I'm still sticking with my Christmas Day entry.  (and yes, I can enter my own contest).

If anyone wants to change their guess now, feel free to do so.

NEW RULE..... no changes or new guesses after we reach the 7700 mark.

Pheasants are pretty much non existent around our place.  In recent years you might see or hear one a couple times during the year, but I don't remember seeing a single one this year.

Quail are another matter.  We've got a ton of them around our place the and the neighbors.  But we feed them along with a lot of other birds.  We put out millet everyday for the quail and other ground feeders.  We  have several black oil sunflower seed feeders and go through almost a gallon of those seeds a day. Plus a couple of niger (thistle seed) feeders for the finches.  Plus a few humming bird feeders which we keep going year round as we have hummers that stay year round.

So we have plenty of birds.  Also have several great horned owls that stay around our place and have some young ones about every year.  Been also seeing a Coopers hawk hang around our feeders as it is looking for a bird to eat.

This week has been really cold for us.  Had a couple mornings this week where it was 8 or 9f, and this morning it was a warm 10f!  Hopefully this weekend the weather is supposed to warm up and next week be back to the 40's and our usual winter rain.

Don't know yet how the last three nights of super cold weather has affected our birds as it is dark when I leave for work and gets dark shortly after I return, so don't get to see them during the day.
