For me an early tractor is pre 1940 although I prefer pre 1930. Kind of like engine collectors that only prefer open crank hit-and-miss as opposed to the later styles with throttle and govenor and closed cranks. Glad to see you exhibiting that 10-20--they have a really great sound.

Yep, the price of early tractors is running away. Can't decide how much of it is real and how much is just those models catching up from being ignored in the '90's while everybody rushed to buy 40's and 50's models you could go to the dealership and buy parts for.

I have about 5 old engines but don't consider myself an engine collector. I much prefer old tractors.

Back in the mid '80s we modified a horse drawn riding cultivator to be pulled with a tractor. We coupled it to dads McCormick 10-20 (on steel) and plowed quite a bit of garden. The lugs did a pretty good job of breaking up the middles for the cultivator.

You need a career change. After being in a machine shop all day my better half never bellyaches about odor unless I have been working on a fuel system or am saturated in fumes from something 2 cycle.

What I don't understand is why more folks from the mailing lists won't participate in this site? I have made several plugs or references to pictures someone posted but aside from one fellow it has generated no traffic.

That Leader must be a pretty rare machine! I can't even recall of hearing of one of them much less seeing one. I never take pictures at shows anymore unless it is of something odd/unusual. It appears the show you were at had plenty of that!

Is that a 1.5 hp JD I also see? You can send it to me to use for parts. Mine suffered from a case of exploding magneto.

This sounds like a very interesting story unfolding--please keep us posted as you make progress!  Fortunately for me I have noticed that Deere seems pretty reasonable for parts for my 40 year old combine. I have ordered on Fri afternoon and had parts Sat morning for just a couple bucks freight. It seems all Deere dealers are now part of chains/franchises. Six or eight of them have now gone together in our "area" I called up before lunch one Fri. needing parts and they had them brought in before quitting time from another dealership. Evidently they have parts/equipment runners that run daily between the dealerships.

Thanks for posting those pictures. You just don't see those kind of tractors at the average show here in the South.

Thanks for the info. Out of curiosity, what could they hope to gain/profit from something such as this forum?

Our chainsaw collection started out innocent enough and now numbers close to 50. We quit buying them several years ago, except for a rare unuaual machine at a great price. Every once in a while we look at one and just wonder where it came from.
