ATIS General Tractor Discussion / Olivers???
« on: March 24, 2008, 03:40:07 PM »
Larry,

If you want an Oliver thread you'll have to start it ;)

I have an Oliver 99, wish it was a Super 99 with the 3-71, but mine's a old 4 banger gas version.

Danny,

Life is pretty lonely on this forum.  Not sure what the reason is.

Looks too good to be considered a parts tractor.

Has nice sheet metal and looks to be complete.

Forum Technical Help / How to find this website
« on: January 23, 2008, 11:05:51 AM »
I think part of the reason the ATIS discussion forums is getting off to a very slow start is that no one can find it.

I've done a Google search and can't find it.

The old ATIS homepage has nothing about the new dicussion forums.

If you build it, they will come, only works if they can find it.:)

Denis,

I was looking at your Fairbanks Morse Jack Jr page.

I currently have a Jack Jr and had another one for many years until I sold it a couple years ago.

My first one was a 1909 one which was painted red, while my current one is a couple years newer and is green.

Another difference is the plugs in the water hopper over the two valves.

On my older one, the plug had a recessed socket, while on the newer one is raised and a regular socket can be used to unscrew them.

I noticed on the engine you have pictured, that there is a third style of plug.

George, I made my Motel 6 reservations in Woodland many months ago and am really looking forward to this once in a lifetime show.

See ya there!

Richard

Richard - I've made reservations at the Best Western Shadow Inn.  I stayed there a few months ago for the Woodland swap meet hosted by EDGE&TA Branch 13.

Steve - I can't say that I'm related to the Best family that made steamers, and crawlers in California.  I do know that my great uncle met C.L. Best one time and the two of them thought they were cousins somehow.  However, I've never found a connection between my family tree and that of the other Best family.  Maybe this summer I'll talk to Dan Best and his father and they may have some information that would link the families.  If there is a connection I bet it would be way back like in the 1700's.

The show should be one not to miss!   This isn't an annual show, but is a special show being put on to bring together a lot of historical tractors on the west coast.

Besides the Best, Holt, Caterpillar tractors, they are trying to get most all of the prairie tractors in California to attend the show.  Also trying to get a lot of California engines at the show.

For people in the western states and for for those that like to travel, there is a very historic show coming up in California in June.

If there was a Fordson/Ford forum I'd post to it.

ATIS General Tractor Discussion / Slow start
« on: December 20, 2007, 12:18:31 PM »
Thanks to Spencer for adding this new discussion forum.

However, it seems that it is getting off to a slow start.  Not sure if there are already enough discussion forums out there that people don't feel a need to post to a new one.

Maybe everyone is just busy getting ready for Christmas :)

The 1 cylinder marine diesel has been identified as a F-M 45 or 45B.

The guy in Florida would like to see it go to a collector rather than to the scrap yard.  I don't know what that means price wise.  Can't say that he'll give it to you or would want scrap price for it.  That's between you and him.

The engine is at Jacksonville FL and I assume would need to be picked up there.  If you are interested in the engine and can pick it up let me know and I'll give you the contact information.
