ATIS General Tractor Discussion / A little red paint
« on: July 05, 2010, 04:45:18 PM »
I got tired of the rusty hood on the front of the Cockshutt 40 recently. There was just more rust than paint on it. I taped over the original decals to save them and after sanding most of the surface rust off, I sprayed a little red paint on it. Its just a cheap Princess Auto paint spray attachment for my air compressor but it did a fairly decent job. The paint was an old hardware store variety that had sat in the shed for the past 30 years or so.  I took this picture of it yesterday while cutting a bit of hay. Now it looks like the rest of the hood should get the same treament. :D

ATIS General Tractor Discussion / Tractors on Youtube
« on: April 04, 2010, 08:18:40 PM »
Well I have been busy again transferring old vhs to youtube. This one is about 3 minutes out of many hours of unedited video so hopefully its the "condensed version". See a Massey 27 running, a Massey triple 444 tractor doing some disking. A John Deere 70 cutting firewood. And last but not least, me on the Cockshutt 40.

ATIS General Tractor Discussion / Wood cutting with the Wisconsin

Got a little video put up on youtube showing us cutting firewood back in 92. You can see and hear the Wisconsin V4 engine that powered the buzz saw. Same engine that ran the old Case Model A combine for years. My nephews as little screaming kids, my Dad pushing the logs into the saw. Long time ago.

'round the pot-bellied stove / Youtube again. Harvest video
« on: March 11, 2010, 10:03:06 PM »
I've been busy with home movies again. Posted a new one at youtube featuring my Uncle combining spring wheat back in the  fall of 87 on a beautiful autumn day. Back then nobody ever dreamed this would show up on the internet (whats that?), and that the Uncles would have supplied their own musical sound track. ;)

'round the pot-bellied stove / Finally on Youtube
« on: March 05, 2010, 10:42:15 AM »
I posted this link on the old forum already but might as well do it here too as this forum could use a little traffic. I transferred some of my old VHS tape and was able to upload some to youtube recently. Its pretty well hopeless on dialup service trying to upload 9. something mb so I used a public access computer at the library with high speed service. This is a learing process for sure but heres a short view of an Oliver 990 pulling at the vintage tractor pulls here back in 1988. One of the most impressive sounding stock tractors I've ever heard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNSfAgrHWSw

'round the pot-bellied stove / REcent Pic of the Cockshutts
« on: February 08, 2010, 04:04:16 PM »
Took this picture a couple of days ago while doing an oil change on the Cockshutt 40. Thought it looked like a good photo opportunity  lined up beside the old 50. The 40 (closest to camera) has had an easy winter so far as I only had to install the snowblower the beginning of this month to open the driveway. Gave the engine a good warm up last week running the belt powered hamer mill for 140 bushels of oats and thought it was  good time for an oil change.

« on: February 07, 2010, 11:40:53 PM »
Well its way too quiet on this forum so heres a simple question. Every time I try to go to youtube and vew anything they tell me I either have an older version of javascript or it is turned off. As far as I can tell it is turned on and I have downloaded the latest version of java from their site. Still nothing changes. What am I missing?

'round the pot-bellied stove / How we used to harvest
« on: January 27, 2010, 06:19:15 PM »
Thought maybe some of you might like to see how we harvested crops here in days gone by. 1973 to be precise. Thats me on the 730 Case tractor and its pulling a 460 combine picking up what must be the poorest excuse for an oat? swath. That must have been a dry year. Those belt pickups were only adequate on a good swath. ON a poor skimpy little swath like the one in the picture they would miss quite a bit even going slow. Sitting out there in the dust is something I sure don't miss. Thats the Cockshutt 50 in the background hitched to the hopper wagon. This 730 is identical but not the same one that I have now.

'round the pot-bellied stove / Massey in the snow
« on: January 26, 2010, 10:40:49 PM »
The blizzard of the weekend has settled down and now we have some snow drifts to clean up. This shot here was taken in a sheltered area where the snow can not drift, just settle in a nice even blanket. The little Massey gets around surprisingly well with that bale of hay hanging off the spike up front. It was even pushing a little snow with the front axle at times. Just had to avoid those deep drifts that were deeper than the front wheels.

'round the pot-bellied stove / Charlynn Steering

Heres an old ad from 1958 showing the Charlynn power steering unit available for tractors. Looks very simple and not that expensive either.

Forum Technical Help / Another photo test
« on: January 11, 2010, 03:32:40 PM »
[/img]

Maybe its a problem with this forum because my first attempt to "insert image" using the little green coloured box above this reply only gave me the red x as you see above. My second attempt used my webshots album linking process and it brought the picture up right away. Just copy the link from webshots, paste into this reply box and there is the photo.
Now if I could just find a way to release the parking brake on this computer I'd be ok. :-(

'round the pot-bellied stove / DC4 at auction

What a collection of good old iron at this farm auction. Theres even a DC4 like mine. Same year anyway. But whats with the odd air cleaner intake? It has the hole in the hood for the intake same as mine but this one at the auction has an air intake outside the hood and further back. How about it Case experts?

Since we are into the year 2010 here is a picture of a friend's JD 2010 tractor back in the late seventies. Home built 3 point hitch that he used to run his 7 foot snowblower with.

ATIS General Tractor Discussion / DC3 Case
« on: December 29, 2009, 12:25:54 PM »
Just an old photo to add to the discussion that was going on over on the atis mailing list. This is my Uncles DC3 Case that they bought in 1949. I guess thats what you call the "chicken roost" steering arm. They later bought the parts to convert to the wide front. I still have the parts they took off (chicken roost and front casting) but unfortunately most of the rest of the tractor is long gone.
No doubt that long wheelbase tricycle rode a little smoother than the shorter wide front version.
