ATIS General Tractor Discussion / Firewood Cutting
« on: March 31, 2018, 03:44:02 PM »
You might have seen some of my youtube videos of cutting firewood with the old buzz saw powered by the Wisconsin V4 (former Case combine engine).
This one is a little different as I didn't shoot it. My nephew does some video and has his own channel so here we all are at work earlier this winter.

ATIS General Tractor Discussion / Super 90 Massey
« on: March 31, 2018, 01:43:12 AM »
Some video I recorded last September hauling hay with the Super 90 Massey and finally got around to editing and uploading to youtube. If I'm still making hay this year I'll probably use the "new to me"
John Deere 2140 as it is nice to have a tractor with working brakes.

ATIS General Tractor Discussion / Foggy Morning
« on: March 27, 2018, 09:18:03 PM »
It was a bright sunny and foggy morning here so I took the drone up for a picture and some video. Scared up a few deer that were feeding on the hay bales but I guess they are getting short of feed
with all the fields covered in snow. I took this shot of the old Red River Special threshing machine that sits on the hill in my pasture.

ATIS General Tractor Discussion / 730 Case Video
« on: March 25, 2018, 11:23:58 PM »
I shot a video of the 730 Case today. Not at work, just a walk around tour pointing out a few details. Its the one my uncle bought back about 1965. And the one I learned to work summerfallow with in the summer of 1970. We both survived.

'round the pot-bellied stove / 69 Members?
« on: March 04, 2012, 02:08:47 PM »
Am I reading it right, there are only 69 members here now? I thought it was not long ago we numbered in the hundreds? Not that it makes much difference if nobody posts any messages to discuss.

'round the pot-bellied stove / Really Old Tractor Video
« on: January 08, 2012, 03:59:15 PM »
Now this one is a real antique. The video itself is one I shot almost 20 years ago and the tractor was an antique even then. A circa 1911 Hart Parr 30-60 gas/kerosene tractor running a Case threshing machine at the Motherwell Farm/park on a sunny day in August.

'round the pot-bellied stove / Cockshutt 40s
« on: December 15, 2011, 08:55:23 PM »
More messing about with old tractors here on the farm back in 1990. I had bought the old full fender 40 with a froze and cracked Perkins 4 cylinder diesel. I found a good Buda diesel from a Co-op 50 at the local wrecker and did the transplant. This video was the first attempt at starting. It started but really rattled. Seemed to be timing gear noise. Thats about as far as I went with it. Still parked in the back of the shed.

'round the pot-bellied stove / Baling Oat Straw
« on: October 07, 2011, 07:36:54 PM »
I baled a little oat straw this week in case I need some small square bales for bedding in the cattle shelter and barn. I used my brother's 1085 Massey tractor and my Massey 120 baler. The scenery was good and the baler worked well producing some well formed and tight bales that are always nice to work with. Although my back was feeling the strain from hauling them in the next day. 'round the pot-bellied stove / John Deere 7721
« on: September 27, 2011, 09:41:42 AM »
Got the John Deere pull type combine out on the weekend and using it on oats. Its a nice change from self propelled combines. It seems to have more capacity than the IH 1660 putting through a 21 foot swath. I even tried it out on the double swaths (42 feet) and it did well, slower driving of course. You don't see many pull types working any more but 30 years ago they were very popular here. No longer in production but theres a few survivors out there. 'round the pot-bellied stove / Spring Wheat Harvest
« on: September 15, 2011, 01:28:48 AM »
A short video I shot from the drivers seat of the combine while harvesting spring wheat the past few days. A bit of picking up swath and then over to the direct cut 22 foot header on my 1660 IH combine. Weather has been great and crops yielding ok. Hopefully it will continue. 'round the pot-bellied stove / Still Alive
« on: August 27, 2011, 03:54:18 PM »
Just checking to see if anyone is still alive on this forum. I have been busy swathing canola (video on youtube) but did take time out to video this vulture tagging operation on my farm yesterday. The naturalists like to tag these young Turkey Vultures before they can fly. These won't be long til they leave the "nest", my Uncle's old chop bin, so it was good timing. They are a bit repulsive with their terrible smell and vomiting in self defense. It works though since they have survived their first two months of life in a bare wooden bin vulnerable to raccoons.

'round the pot-bellied stove / Water Pump Replacement
« on: July 24, 2011, 09:06:44 PM »
A short video of some of the details involved in replacing the water pump on my Cockshutt 40 yesterday. I kept thinking how much more difficult this job would have been if I had to do it in the winter time when fingers freeze up and lose feeling. ATIS General Tractor Discussion / Working the 730 Case
« on: July 12, 2011, 10:22:04 AM »
I was moving some grain yesterday and it happened that the 730 Case was the most likely candidate to run the pto grain auger. I didn't run it too hard as I am afraid the pto will slip . The 10x50 foot auger can make a small tractor work hard if I try to run the auger right full. This was a little more relaxed run, still fast moving grain though.
