I found what I needed on Harry's page. It still did not run, so checked the igniter, a nice blue spark (good or bad??). Still nothing, so tried either, still nothing. I pulled the head and decided to lap the valves while I had it apart. Upon re-assembly. it ran for over a minute. I lost it while fine tuning. I am tired, but it does run. Thanks for the replies

No insulation, it is a hand wrapped coil for engine use. Would the ohm reading be different by reversing the test leads??

I just gave up keeping the mag 'hot'  It has been 4 years since the mag was charged and 4 years since the engine has run

Been a long time since I was around SEL people.  I have a JD  E that I give up have a hot mag on it. I have a coil and 12V battery.  I feel the coil is a high impedance coil (6 inch long and 1+ inch in diameter). What I am looking for is help on how to hook this up.  Where does the positive go? To the inside or outside lug?? And the from the remaining lug to the points?? Does the negative go straight to the engine frame??

I am sure this is so simple for most of you, but not for this old fart. If younger I would try different things until I figured it out, but today cranking that much is not an option.  Thanks for any help I get.

'round the pot-bellied stove / Western Ohio Update
« on: September 25, 2014, 10:47:45 AM »
Well I am back for a while. I have trouble navigating but that should get better as I hang around here. I don't have a lot of news, I am at that point of my life where it is hard to do major projects. I keep the 4 old tractor I have running and work them with keeping the places mowed. Interesting note it that we have 8.5 acres of alfalfa, which I cannot find anyone to bale it.  Long story is it will go to seed this year and have some one lined up to make it next year, What a waste.
Is this the main thread??

I was going to up load some pictures, guess I had better go and make thumbnails of them first. I understand 620 k is the largest picture?

hour later:

It is coming back to me. I quit this forum because I could not figure out how to up load pictures. I don't seem to have trouble on Google, FB and other places.  I went to "insert image" tool. I selected a picture which I made as small as possible, (340k or mb) and clicked on the upload button.  Nothing happens, it gets frustrating.

Is the 730 a wheatland model.  I am not used to fenders like those.  Or maybe it is just the model year??

Always neat to see an old tractor put to use.  I was hoping to see these honeysuckle stumps also :)

Like it has been said, I can understand all but the part of it not blowing/falling/tipping over.  Several days of moving ...Wow .... that takes steady nerves.

I bet I have taken at least 10 campers to Edmonton.  Pretty country, I was not remembering the hills and trees.  I could not seen combine on Goggle Earth either, but did see them on the other site.  I always thought the different shades of crops were different varieties of wheat, maybe the color difference is a different crop?

Well heck Gene, I have been close to you many times. I used 117 to cut from Lima to US 33. I stopped, on my way  home at the rest area on 33 just before it goes to 2 lanes and slept a few hours. Just could not make home

Wow, what a cool little engine. It was a good thing it was you working on the carb and not me ... I don't have much luck or faith in figuring them out.
